This bill lets geothermal energy companies skip getting a federal drilling permit when they drill on private land where the federal government owns less than half the underground geothermal resources. It also removes several major environmental and historic preservation review requirements for those projects. If this passes, geothermal drilling on qualifying private land could begin much faster with less federal oversight.
