This bill requires health insurance companies to cover prostate cancer screenings at no cost to men age 40 and older who are at higher risk, including African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer. Right now, insurance plans may charge copays or deductibles for these screenings. If this passes, high-risk men would get free prostate cancer screenings through their insurance.
Prostate cancer is nearly 100% survivable when caught early but kills at much higher rates when detected late. This bill would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for screenings among men most likely to develop the disease, removing a financial barrier that may delay life-saving early detection.
