This bill requires companies that offer AI chatbots to verify users' ages and block anyone under 18 from using "AI companions" (chatbots designed to simulate friendship, emotional connection, or a relationship). It also makes it a federal crime to offer a chatbot that exposes kids to sexually explicit content or encourages them to harm themselves or others. All chatbots must tell users they are not human and not licensed professionals.
If you or your kids use AI chatbots like Character.AI or Replika, this bill would require you to hand over government ID or similar proof of age to keep access , and would completely ban anyone under 18 from AI companion apps designed to simulate friendships or relationships.
