Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy. Hearings held.
This bill would let companies that group together many small electricity customers (like homes and businesses) participate in the wholesale electricity market by adjusting when and how much energy those customers use. Right now, some states block this. If this passes, large utilities would have to let these "middleman" companies bid into energy markets on behalf of their customers, which could lower energy costs and reduce strain on the power grid during peak times.
This bill could let millions of households and businesses earn money by voluntarily reducing electricity use during high-demand periods , like hot summer afternoons , through companies that bundle many customers together to negotiate in energy markets. Lower peak demand can mean lower electricity bills for everyone.
