This bill changes the federal carjacking law to make it easier for prosecutors to charge people with carjacking and creates tougher penalties when a firearm is used. Right now, prosecutors must prove a carjacker intended to kill or seriously hurt someone. Under this bill, they only need to prove the person knowingly took the car by force. It also adds a new penalty tier for carjackings involving guns.
If you or someone you know has been a victim of carjacking, this bill would make it significantly easier for federal prosecutors to bring charges against attackers , removing a legal hurdle that currently lets some carjackers avoid federal prosecution entirely.
