This bill makes it a federal crime to rob, assault, or steal from people using or servicing ATMs, and to break into or tamper with ATM machines, even when the ATM is not located at a bank. Right now, federal bank robbery laws mainly cover crimes at bank buildings. If this passes, federal prosecutors could bring charges for ATM-related crimes anywhere an ATM exists, such as gas stations, convenience stores, or shopping malls.
