Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Hearings held.
This bill raises the maximum size of government-backed loans available to small American manufacturers. Right now, these businesses can borrow up to about $3.75 million to $5.5 million through Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs. This bill roughly doubles those limits, going up to $7.5 million or $10 million, but only for manufacturers whose factories are all in the United States.
Small U.S. factories could borrow up to twice as much through government-backed loan programs, making it easier to buy equipment, expand production, or hire workers. But taxpayers are on the hook if those bigger loans go unpaid, and the bill has no automatic safeguard if defaults rise.
