This bill says that when a nonprofit organization or drug manufacturer helps pay for your prescription drugs, that money must count toward your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. Right now, many insurance companies ignore those payments, meaning you never get closer to meeting your deductible even though someone is paying on your behalf. If this passes, patients who receive financial help for expensive medications would reach their spending limits faster, lowering their total costs.
