This bill gives certain severely disabled veterans an extra $833.33 per month, raises survivor benefit payments so they grow faster than Social Security cost-of-living adjustments, and expands home loan eligibility to National Guard and Reserve members. It pays for some of these changes by increasing fees on VA home loans and extending a cap on pension payments for certain veterans.
Tens of thousands of severely disabled veterans would receive about $10,000 more per year, and military families who lost a loved one to service-related causes would see a temporary bump in their survivor payments. But these benefits are funded partly by raising costs on veterans taking out home loans , meaning some veterans pay so others benefit.
